Common questions

Pricing and Quotes

How do quotes work?

Whether it's a phone call or a look on site, we work out the job first and put the price in writing before we start. No hourly rates. If something turns up that nobody could have seen coming, work pauses, you get an explanation, and the new price gets signed off before we carry on.

Do prices change once you start?

Not once you've accepted it, no. The price we quote is the price you pay, no matter how the job unfolds from there. The one exception is genuinely unforeseen trouble uncovered mid-job, like a switchboard in worse shape than it looked from outside. When that happens, we down tools, show you what we've found, and settle on a new price together before work continues.

How do I pay?

However suits you on the day, card or bank transfer, once the work's signed off. There's no deposit needed to lock in a booking. You'll get the fixed price in writing before the job starts, so there's nothing to work out at the end.

Is the quote really free?

Yes, genuinely. We'll assess the work on site, then hand over a free written quote with nothing owing just for turning up. That holds whether the job is one extra power outlet or a complete switchboard rebuild. Go ahead and book it, and the price you accepted is exactly what appears on the final invoice.

Common questions

Safety, Standards and Paperwork

What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?

A safety switch (RCD) monitors the current in a circuit and cuts the power almost instantly if it detects a leak to earth, the kind of fault that can deliver a shock. Older homes wired before switchboards carried them as standard often only protect part of the house. Current NSW rules call for a safety switch on every circuit, the safer setup regardless of a home's age.

What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?

A certificate of compliance for electrical work is the paperwork that confirms notifiable work has been tested and meets AS/NZS 3000. It gets lodged with NSW Fair Trading, and a copy lands in your inbox once the work wraps up, so you have proof for insurance, a future sale, or your own records. Every eligible job we do gets one, no extra charge.

What is AS/NZS 3000?

AS/NZS 3000 is the Australian wiring rules, the standard that governs how electrical work has to be designed, installed and tested to be safe. Cable sizes, circuit protection, how many safety switches (RCDs) a board needs, it's all set out there. Whatever we're doing on site, whether that's adding one outlet or rewiring a whole house, it's carried out to that same standard, no shortcuts.

Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?

No, and this one's non-negotiable. Testing, certifying and carrying out electrical work in NSW has to go through someone licensed to do it, full stop. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW, aside from a very short list of trivial tasks like swapping a light globe. Wire something yourself and get it wrong, and you're looking at a real safety risk plus a claim your insurer won't touch.

Common questions

Response Times and Booking

How fast can you get here?

For a standard booking, we're often same or next day, depending on what's already on the run that week. Genuine emergencies go straight to the front: sparking, no power to the whole board, anything live and dangerous. Mention that up front on the phone and we treat it as urgent from that first call.

How soon can you fit me in?

It depends on the week, but for most bookings we're often same or next day. You'll get a real time window on the call rather than "sometime this week." If the job before yours runs long, you'll get a call, not a no-show.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Immediate risk to people or property, in short: sparks, a burning smell, exposed live wiring, a shock off an appliance, or the whole switchboard down rather than a single circuit. If in doubt, turn it off at the switchboard, then get us on the phone. We'll walk you through what to do next and get someone on the way straight away.

How do I book?

Call (02) 9054 3079 and a real person answers the phone, not a call centre or a voicemail maze. Give us a rundown of the problem, and we'll sort a time that works, with a confirmation text and a reminder the day before so you're not left wondering when the van will show.

Common questions

Working in and Around Cammeray

What suburbs do you service?

Cammeray is our home turf, and we're regularly working in the suburbs around it too: Crows Nest, Northbridge, North Sydney, Naremburn and Cremorne. If your street isn't on that list, call anyway. We cover a fair bit of the Lower North Shore between jobs.

How local are you, really?

We're not a call centre routing work in from across Sydney. Cammeray and the suburbs right around it, on the Lower North Shore, are our regular run most weeks, not an occasional add-on. Whoever turns up already knows this patch, because we're back here often, not just passing through for a one-off job.

Do you know Cammeray's housing stock?

Reasonably well. A good share of the homes here date to the Federation era, and those original wiring runs are usually well past their design life now. That's different from the newer flats and units in the suburb, which mostly just need the odd point added or a smart upgrade. Tell us the age of the place when you book and we'll come prepared.

Do you work on heritage/strata properties?

Strata jobs, yes, regularly, from single units to full-building switchboard upgrades with body corporate sign-off. On older character homes we're careful with any visible cable runs or facade work, matching standard practice for period properties. We don't hold council heritage listings for individual houses, so if yours is heritage-listed, mention it on the call and we'll plan the work around it.
